awesome!i cant really review the CD because i havent heard it but i heard the Carnies perform last night, live, and they ARE 5 star performers! silky smooth is the correct word to use for them!! they have marvelous voices! they have a great sense of humor. and they totally glorify God. i enjoyed them very much. and hope to get both their CDs.
Outstanding VoiceJeff Carnie is a man with a talent that needs no introduction. Jeff has truly had an impact on many people, through his music and ministries. His voice is like his personality, brilliant, intelligent, and charming. He is passionate about his music and his ministries. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to have heard such great voices blend with the Carnies music. You can hear the joy and fellowship in all of his songs. The versatility in his voice will amaze you! He has a smooth and silky sound yet his voice conveys strength and power. He sings to the one who has blessed him with a wonderful voice. Now he is sharing his voice with the world, and you will not be disappointed.
Standing in the Need of PrayerThis is one of the best up and coming groups I have heard. There is a strong message in their music. There live performances are spirit fed and ausome. I see why they are one of the buisiest groups in gospel music. Their new CD Standing in the Need of Prayer is a great addition to any Gospel music library.

The Stanleys Are Truely The Best If you like "Real" Traditional Bluegrass, this is a perfect album for you. Ralph & Carter Stanley began their professional career in 1947. They recorded for Rich-R-Tone, Columbia, and Mercury records. In the late 50's they began recording for King records. This is their finest gospel King recordings from 1958-1966 (Carter Stanley's death was in 1966.) The Stanley Brothers are not your everyday progressive grass, but real, traditional, mountain Bluegrasss. If you like the traditional style, you will greatly enjoy this album.

The One That Started the Quest for More BluegrassMy Bluegrass addiction has become out-of-control and it started with this one. The beautiful harmony of the Stanley Brothers is what defined "High Lonesome" for me, beginning with the song "Rank Strangers." Every song on this CD will stay in your mind at one time or another the more you listen to it.
No FLUFF, just pure, "from the heart" Gospel BluegrassI was introduced to the Stanley brothers by hearing their song "Angel Band" on the O Bother Where Art thou? soundtrack. After doing just a little research, I quickly realized they were the real deal. Ralph and Carter Stanley have a collection here of true and pure, soulful memories that must savored time and time again. This music stirs memories of my parents and grandparents, camp meetings, week long revivals and of a simpler time.
I realize this collection will be too un-sophisticated for many who listen. But not me. I'll be buying more from these guys.

Act 2 ariaListen to the "aria" in act 2, after the Dyer's Wife wakes up Barak after the "temptation", the Nurse having put him to sleep. Nilsson takes the high B at the words "market" to thrilling effect!!
Wow!!!The year is 1976. You are going to the opera house. Birgit Nilsson is 58 years old. It's an age where allowances have to be made for opera singers. You sit down and wait for her entry. BOOOOOOM!!!! You get a shock!! Is that the voice of a 58 year old woman???? Yes, Birgit Nilsson at age 58 still had LOTS of power in her voice. Her reading here is nothing short of ELECTRIFYING. Listen to her top B's, they hit you like lighting, like a ton of bricks!!! And look at the supporting cast, they are magnificent. I've never heard James King sing better in the role of the Emperor. His intense, penetrating interpretation is worth every cent of the price. And is that the legendary Astrid Varnay in the difficult role of the Nurse? Yes!!!! Varnay brings her artistry and intensity to the part, not to mention her legendary voice, powerful and full. Fischer-Dieskau, legendary Lieder singer/opera singer is Barak and Bjoner, with her powerful and bright soprano voice is the Empress, a magnificent alternative to Leonie Rysanek. Die Frau is my favorite Strauss opera. I was blown away by the power of the reading. If you like Die Frau, then this is for you - a must for the collector.
Thrilled to bitsBirgit Nilsson gives a stunning performance of the Dyer's Wife. Her prodigious vocalism, firm and bright voice makes her moments of dramatic revolt the most thrilling moments ever recorded. She is surrounded by an all-star cast comprising Fischer-Dieskau, Astrid Varnay, James King and the great dramatic soprano Bjoner. In particular, King's emperor has never been so thrillingly captured. The all-star cast and the sense of excitement generated by a 'live' performance makes this one of the best Die Frau Ohne Schatten ever. Die Frau Ohne Schatten is a very lucky opera. Even though it is very difficult to cast, when the casting is good, every performance is almost a small miracle in itself like this one. Worth every cent that I paid. You'll be thrilled to bits too.

- There Is A Line
- Heart Like A Rock
- Agree To Disagree
- Hold The Intangible
- Call Of The Wild
- No Remedy For Love
- A Rose Is A Rose
Ironically, maturity is the word that dominates this self-titled debut. Susan Ashton's voice is no beginner's; in fact, it is no wonder that she frequently sings along with celebrities in the secular music arena: her vocal talents are comparable to Phil Keaggy's on guitar. Moreover, the production is surprisingly sophisticated. Instead of simply showcasing a beautiful voice, a refreshing diversity of sounds stands on its own right with plenty of guitar, some rock inflections, and an underlying country influence. If you're not a country fan, rest assured: it only evidences itself in the disc's uncrowded rhythms, which are closer to Patsy Cline classics than contemporary country pop. Ask anyone, however, and it is the message of the recording that merits Susan Ashton the accolade of a classic. From the first song on the track to the last, her songs are seasoned with understanding that can only come from a life with Christ. They range in simple tones--forgiveness in "Remember Not," experiencing God in the twilight of a Sunday evening in "Waiting for Your Love...," and the determination of conviction in "There Is a Line"--but the earthy metaphors and the sincerity of her lyrics touch on the deep and very present things of a walk with God. It is because of these that this recording is one of those everlasting standbys: the songs penetrate the very essence of our lives.

amazing!Susan has the best female voice on the planet..and this album is so awesome..every song touches you..she has such a clear, and bright voice..with an amazing range. Summer Solstice, Hold the Intangible, Heart Like a Rock, Agree to Disagree are my favorite songs on here..but every song is a hit. There is no way on earth that you could dislike this album..even if you dont like contempoary christian music. Her best of vol. 1 is so fabulous also. She writes a lot of her songs too. Buy it..you wont be diasappointed :)
Susan Ashton touches the heartI well remember the first time I heard Susan Ashton. I was in a Christian bookshop in Chelmsford, England, and this CD was playing. I was going through a tough time in my personal life. Then "A rose is a rose" came on. I just had to stop and listen to the whole track, wipe away a tear or two, and then buy the album there and then! This album is charged with truth and emotion, and I would challenge anyone to question the divine inspiration which runs through it.
This is an album of the highest quality imaginable: beautifully crafted songs, a voice that reaches out and grabs you, and a team of musicians and technicians who know exactly how to get the best out of the two. I'd happily recommend this to anyone - of any religion or none.

Susan Ashton ~ Susan AshtonI remember when this first came out the words and lyrics and music are awesome and gave a few insights to susans soul and the way she sang. Her heart was really in this album and I hope she continues to keep it in the right place.

Janet Paschal Is The Best of the Younger Gospel SingersJanet Paschal is the most talented and the best trained of the female gospel singers performing today. One of her prior CDs, "The Good Road" is the best of her recordings to date. It belongs in every gospel lover's collection.
Her performance on the Gaither video, "So Glad!" is awesome, and it is that show's stealer.
"Sweet Life" is one of her latest offerings, and while it hasn't the bend toward the knee-slapping, hand clapping, holy ghost numbers Ms. Paschal does better than anyone, "sweet" is definitely the adjective that describes the series of songs and Ms. Paschal's performance.
Add "The Good Road", "Sweet Life" and "So Glad!" to your collection, and you'll have many hours of uplifting entertainment at your beckoning call, I promise!
GREAT ALBUMLove Janet's new album. This album will minister to your spirit. If you like Janet you would love Karen Wheaton. They have very similar sounds, but most of all similar spirits. Buy this album. You will be blessed.
Janet is truely the Barbara Streisand of gospel music!!Her inspiring music and heartfelt lyrics will help you to realize that the lives that each of us live are indeed Sweet!

Lots of Music! This is a great buy. You get 100 tracks of music that is VERY diverse. You get the electrical-sounding music of Joy Electric, hardcore styles of Zao and Overcome, the punk of MxPx, the weirdness of Danielson, and so much more! The songs are put in order of the years they were released, starting with the earliest, so you get to really hear how Tooth and Nail has progressed throughout the years. Brandon Ebel and Bill Power need to be congratulated on this 100th release. Only flaw is that its a little dated (made back in 1997 or 98, I think), so it won't include some of the newer bands Tooth and Nail has signed (like the great Juliana Theory). But it's a good buy for nostalgic reasons.
Also includes a neat-o booklet that tells the history of T&N and has colorful photographs of the staff and bands.
UnbelivableI got hooked on tooth and nail by a friend. i only listened to a couple songs and fell in love with it! Its got a variety of song types like good mxpx punk and Joy Electric techno/synth! If ur a tooth and nail fan or just like good fast paced muzik get this! Its the best cd's i own, and its a good price for 100 songs!
The only album you needMy girlfriend let me borrow this CD. Now I bought it for myself! It's got all kinds of music to suit any need. Plus, you're Mom won't get mad.

Electric KoolAid in AugustForget the tired comparisons of violinists gone by, Chris Howes is creating his own mold. Simultaneously reviving the lost art of jazz violin and burning a path few have ever see with this instrument, Mr. Howes has shown us the light and it is called Ten Yard. Think of this album as the license to what appears to be an extremely exahilarating career. As evident in D.D. Jackson's new album, Anthem, there is no slowing down for young Christian and all we can do is put on our seatbelts and pray that the ride lasts for a long time. This album will awaken your senses to what is truly out there in modern jazz and leave you hungry for more. Wake up and check out this album!

The best jazz violinist anywhereChristian Howes' interpretation is brilliant, mystifying, and inspiring. You will be drawn again and again to this c.d., to his powerful riffs, superb compositions, and ever-growing style. You will not be diappointed!

From the old schoolThis is one of the fist Christian CD's i bought back in 95. The nostalgia that this album provides is sharp and strong. I loved driving around town with the windows down listening Scott wail and croon over driving guitar.
My main complaint with the album has nothing to do with Plankeye...it has to do with the cheesy christian music reviews that compared them to Pearl Jam. Come on! These guys aren't in the same zip code as Pearl Jam! They're not really even the same style. But i digress.
Plankeye is good, driving guitar rock. This album remains my favorite because it feels like it's from their gut. Add this to your mid 90's collection...you won't be disapointed.

Plankeye is good, driving guitar rock. This album remains my favorite because it feels like it's from their gut. Add this to your mid 90's collection...you won't be disapointed.

The Spark SparksI remember a time in my young life where I thought Christian Music was hymns and old gospel songs. I was in our local Christian Book store one day with my mom and I saw they had a music section that sparked my curiosity. I saw there was an alternative section and thought to myself, this is Christian Music? Plankeye's cover inspired me to pick it up and listen to the demo. I picked up a copy and bought it. This album is amazing and guitar driven. Great rock. Perfect Day Jerome is a great song to listen to with the windows down on a nice sunny day...Enjoy!
Make A Joyful Noise Onto The Lord!!!Plankeye's "The Spark" is a masterpiece. It is not just for Christian Contemporary listeners--it is for everybody, and yes, it is sure to inspire many. Steve Stilletta is a great singer/songwriter, whose vocals are always captivating, and whose material always inspires. There are hints of influences of other, mainstream bands, such as Pearl Jam, but the performance is all their own. From the irresistable "It's A Beautiful Day Jerome," the anthemic "Open House," the acoustic ballad "Three-Fold Chord," "Drive," "Boy," and the ska-flavored "Wings To Fly," the album is a must own. My favorite cut (if I have to choose just one!) would have to be "Open House."

Orchestration seems to overwhelm the vocalsAfter listening to previews from this CD, I picked it up because I especially enjoy simple hymns of the kind selected for this list. But it surprised me to hear how "done up" the arrangements were: too many instruments, at times, and often too much harmonic or rhythmic complexity backing very basic melodies. Frankly, some of the arrangements seemed to mimic some of the worst aspects of canned Celtic and new age music. This is a promising program and I would not discount Card's ability to sing it well. But his voice is simply lost amid the various instruments strutting their stuff.
Michael Card's delightful versions of familiar medoliesI believe that Michael Card's music is truly inspired by God and am in awe of this CD in which Card records old, familiar melodies in his own original and unique new ways. I like the orchestral arrangements and appreciate the variety of instrumentation throughout the entire CD. I really enjoy Starkindler (by M. Card) and am very impressed by both tracks of "Be Thou My Vision" with the reprise being absolutely heavenly. I did not think I would like this CD as most of the songs are not written by M. Card, however, I was delightfully surprised by his interpretations of old songs and the way one can feel the inspiration of the Creator in all his work. This is truly now one my favorite CDs of Michael Card. I also enjoyed the fact that with this CD as well as all Michael Card music one can hear and understand each word of each song, which is a very high priority for this artist. Again I am so pleased and would highly recommend this CD to anyone who loves Christian music.
Fresh Relaxing Journey through timeMichael Card has masterfully produced these old favourites.
I was blessed recently to hear Babbie sing "Standing in the Gap" live here in WR, GA. But instead of using a track...she sang the song, accompanying herself on the piano. In between verses, she reiterated the importance of "standing in the gap" for each other and making intercession. Great song.
Other songs that are irrefutably were written to minister to me (must make it personal) are: For the Cause of Christ and To the Cross. It's true. "I must count my gains as losses that I may know Him. I claim no greater prize, than the cause of Christ. Treasures and trophies quickly pass, but only what's done for Christ will last. So I'll be living my life...only for the cause of Christ."
Thanks Babbie and thank You, LORD.
